| Frequently Asked Questions |
| What does this work with? |
| |
The accelerator works with web and email only. It should not interfere
with FTP, gaming, streaming video, etc. |
| Will this cause conflicts with Windows Update? |
| |
Nope, the accelerator is configured to allow you to connect directly
to the Windows Update site instead of using the accelerator. |
| Exactly how much faster is this? |
| |
It is *very* dependent on how you use the internet. Those that
use the internet mostly for browsing and email will see a much better
increase than those that download lots of files and view streaming
video. An average user will see a 400-600% increase in speed. |
| Do I sign in with myname or myname@atcjet.net? |
| |
The software just requires your username. If you type in your email
address, it will automatically get rid of the @atcjet.net and just
use the username. |
| How do I tell if it's working? What do the icons

| How do I tell if it's working? |
| |
Click the Accelerator tray icon, then click Statistics. There is
numerical information here, but to see how your accelerator is performing,
just look at the bar at the bottom. The more dots you have lit up,
the better the accelerator is performing. |
| How does it work? |
| |
The technology is closely related to that used by NetZero and Netscape
Highspeed Dialup. Through a combination of caching, compression,
and optional image compression, data is able to be sent to your computer
much more quickly. |
| Is there any way to make it faster? |
| |
Most of the acceleration is done automatically, though if you want
to squeeze every last bit out of the software, you can change how
much images are compressed. The tradeoff is that, as you compress
the images, you also lose image quality. To change this setting,
click the accelerator icon, then Settings. Move the slider as you
see fit. The software shows you an example, uncompressed image, and
a sample of what the image would look like at that specific setting.
The graphic on the left shows what a jpg image would look like (most
images use this format), while the image on the right shows how a
bmp image will appear. |
| I'm a techie, I want more technical proof. Is
there any? |
| |
Sure. click on the accelerator icon, then Help, then Diagnostics.
Click the Generate button, and after a few moments, you will be presented
with all the technical information you could imagine. The most interesting
part is the last section, Under Test 3 and Test
4 Test 3 shows your real bandwidth capabilites, while Test
4 shows you what your *apparent* bandwidth is. |
| I have a question that isn't answered here. Who
can I contact? |
| |
Call our Technical Support number as usual. 1-866-222-SURF (7873),
or, you can email support@atcjet.net with
your questions. |
